Smoothies

This week we decided to make smoothies. Just choose your own ingredients and let your little helpers put them in the blender. We decided to used blackberries, yogurt, milk, ice cream and sugar. A great activity and a delicious snack.

Greenhouse Plants

This week is a great time to start planting seeds indoors since it is still a little cold outside before spring (at least it is where I live in Washington). I came across this greenhouse kit for kids which cost a little under $10.

Here is a picture of the greenhouse box.

My 3-year-old daughter enjoyed stirring the dirt (which has to be mixed with water), putting the little stickers on the stakes and dropping the seeds into the dirt that we placed in the cups. She was also able to help me build the wall and roof around our plants.

This is our finished greenhouse. We set it on our windowsill that lets in the most sun each day so our plants will grow faster. Our vegetable garden includes an eggplant, tomato, cucumber and sweet pepper.

With this kit, you don't need to water the plants every single day. It only requires a small amount of water when the dirt turns light brown. And the instructions suggest that when the plants are 3" tall, you can transfer them outside.

Grow chart.

A fun growth chart is included that I posted on one of my kitchen cabinets so my daughter and I can check the progress of our plants and measure them every few days.
